Hey all, due to Hurricane Irene it obviously slowed down everything this week, yet to no avail here is The Pick of the Week.
The Picture is of me which I usually don’t like to do, in this case this picture reminded me of happier times in the subway; this is where it’s taken in Manhattan on 23rd street and Madison Avenue. Those hats represent tributes to people, I think that one was dedicated to Oscar Wilde. The Word of the Week is Blithe. The Quote of the Week is “A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her”, Oscar Wilde.
Hey folks it’s time for The Pick of the Week. Today’s Picture is the almost forest of my backyard apartment; this is nestled between the border of Rego Park and Forest Hills. The Word of the Week is: Boscage. The Quote of the Week is: “A peace is of the nature of a conquest; for then both parties nobly subdued, and neither party loser” William Shakespeare.
Hi folks this is The Pick of the Week; where we now explore a themed picture, a word and a quote related to both the word and the picture. Having it themed is much better and cohesive in the sense it has a purpose which we all strive for and try to discover for ourselves and our loved ones.
The Picture is of a tree, leaves and vines bathed in todays’ rain; this is outside my bedroom window in Forest Hills. The Word of the week is: Nuture. The Quote of the week is: “I believe there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright”, Henry David Thoreau
Sorry folks, I got a little late with The Pick of the Week.
This is the Pick of the Week, where a Photograph, a Word and a Quote are created so we can discuss and share in some good conversations and enjoy life: The Picture of the Week is of a set bikes all lined off in a row on 24th and Madison Avenue near the Credit Suisse in NYC, it’s so French. The Word of the Week is: Velocipede. The Quote of the Week is: “We’re doing things we’d never do —- it’s so exciting” Harley Davidson.
HARRY POTTER: THIS IS THE END!!! THANKS!
Viewing parties, early long lines of Potterheads in New York and London and Rupert Grint having a case of clothing Deja Vu on both Live with Regis and Kelly and The Today Show with Kathy Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, yes my friends this is the final end to the Harry Potter series.
One of the most successful movie and book franchises since The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Can you imagine?! It’s been ten years of Harry Potter, that is, over 600 wands used in the movies, over 24 hours of Harry Potter; and Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have now grown into smart, beautiful and handsome people from the age of 10 into their 20s, simply amazing!! Out of all the Harry Potter Movies which are your favorite. Let’s take a look and view the summaries of each of the Potter Movies via clips:
Harry Potter 1 Or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone The Harry Potter fans errupt in muggle rapture over the first movie of Harry Potter. In this movie it is revealed to him from Hagrid that he is a wizard. Witches, and witches’ brooms, magic, “Quidditch”; Harry Potter living underneath the stairs i.e. a broom cupboard; “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named” haunts the magical world and even makes a half of an appearance. However, thanks to love, friendship, cunning, belief in yourself and good versus evil, is what is captured in the first film.
Harry Potter 2 Or Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets J.K. Rowling is brillant with making the haunted girls bathroom the access to the Chamber of Secrets. Anways, something is haunting and turning everyone in Hogwarts frozen stiff, even Hermoine gets caught and everyone thinks Harry is turning into “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named”. Actually, Tom Riddle i.e. Lord Voldermot makes an appearance as a teenage wizard within an enchanted book. We later learn that this book is a Horcrux. Luckily and as always Harry has help in the Chamber of Secrets from Dumbledore via a Phoenix, the Sword of Gryffindor and a claw which destroys Lord Voldermot. The Phoenix rescues them all, Harry, Ron, Ginney, and the Professor of Memory Spells, played by Kenneth Branagh. Also Harry gives Dobby his freedom. And there is “Quidditich”.
Harry Potter 3 Or Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban This sends both the movie franchise and the books into a more contemporary and exciting direction, thanks to Alfonso Cuaron. Harry and the rest of the wizarding world fears the escape of the Prisoner of Azkaban i.e. Sirius Black; it is because everyone believes it was him who betrayed Harry’s parents. Meanwhile, Harry has a magical map which allows him to see the people who walk about the grounds of Hogwarts. Professor Lupin befriends Harry who is also Sirius’s friend; it is later discovered that Professor Lupin is a Werewolf. Hagrid becomes a teacher for the first time and he teaches the young wizards about flying the Griffin. And there is time-travel, my favorite of all. Hermoine uses her “time turner” to go back into time to save and rescue Sirius and stop “Buck beak” from being killed. What a great story. No “Quidditich”.
Harry Potter 4 Or Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire This movie is also my favorite, it is because of the tournament that Harry has to play, win and ultimately survive. Hogwarts has wizards from all over the world competing in the games with even some love interests for Hermoine, Ron and Harry. All wizards only above the age of 16 can compete but the Goblet of Fire provides Harry’s name which makes everyone yet again loose trust in Harry, as a result, Harry looses the trust of Ron. They later bond over the screaming golden egg. Young Longbottom saves the day for Harry when he gives him a special herb that helps him breathe under-water for one of the challenges. Harry even defeats a dragon which is very vicious. All the while Mad-Eye Moody is suspicously helping Harry for a purpose. In addition, Harry keeps getting nightmares of Voldermot returning. Furthermore, Harry gains a new friendship in Cedric Diggory. The final task has all of the participants trying to kill each other, under a spell and running to get the Goblet. The Goblet as it turns out is a “Port Key” that brings Harry and Cedric to the rebirth of Lord Voldermot. Unfortunately, Cedric is killed, Lord Voldermot is reborn and Harry escapes back to Hogwarts with the help of his dead parents. Yes “Quidditich”!
Harry Potter 5 Or Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix The Ministry of Magic is in denial about Voldermot’s existance so much so Hogwarts comes under persecution from “Evil in a Pink dress”, Delores Umbridge. The students face unforgiveable curses such as, torture, truth spells, etc. Harry and his friends decide to resurrect the Order of the Phoenix which was once a secret order dedicated to fighting against Lord Voldermot. The young wizards practice in the room of magical convenience or is it magical things, anyway, “it appears when one needs it”. As Professor Umbridge punishes students more and more, as a result, more and more students join the Order. Meanwhile, Lord V. is looking for the Horcruxes, attacking and killing wizards, and Sirius dies at the hands of Bellatrix Lestrange. In an example of socialism versus democracy, democracy wins and Professor Umbridge gets sacked as the Head Master of Hogwarts and the creatures of the forest nearly kill her. No “Quidditich”.
Harry Potter 6 Or Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince This Harry Potter movie seems almost like it’s almost out of steam with Harry and Dumbledore working together to find the Horcruxes. Moreover, there has been a false memory implanted into Dumbledore’s mind to disguise the truth and the reasons behind why these Horcruxes exist. And we are introduced to Professor Slughorn and a very young Voldermot. Also Harry and Ginny’s love grows which makes the movie almost like a love story. In addition, Harry’s mystery about the Half-blood Prince, who was the owner of a Poitions and Spells book which is diabolical and fatal, grows. Professor Snape tries to teach Harry to resist memory torture, when Harry turns the tables on him Harry sees how Professor Snape was terrorized by Harry’s parents when they went to Hogwarts together. Meanwhile, the Malfoy family has agreed to an unbreakable bond with Voldermot and Professor Snape; this bond forces Draco Malfoy to do the tasks of Death-Eaters i.e. kill Harry Potter. Malfoy is very reluctant but Harry defends himself by almost killing Malfoy but Snape saves Malfoy. Obviously the most unfortunate part is the death of Professor Dumbledore in the tower at the hands of Professor Snape. It’s very abrupt, cold, final and shocking. In the book, there is a big funeral where all of the characters from the previous books come to the funeral, it made a friend of mine cry and I am sure many people did as well. This is also the beginning of the last day of school for Harry and most of his friends. Professor Snape reveals to Harry that he is “The Half-Blood Prince”, shocking! There is No “Quidditich”.
Harry Potter 7 Part 1 Or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 This movie has been hailed as the closest version to any of the Harry Potter books. It has great pace, wit, fun, excitement, drama, revelations, hope and the tale of the Deathly Hallows, and no “Quidditich”. Harry, Hermoine and Ron are forced to run and search for the Horcruxes that the late Dumbledore advised Harry to do; this is with the help of the book “The Beatle and the bard”, a special light that gives light and takes it away, and the Sword of Gryffindor that Dumbledore left for them in a will. The “Muggle” world i.e. non-magical world and the wizarding world are threatened after the fall of the Ministry of Magic and the control by Delores Umbridge, the Malfoy family and others. Harry, Hermoine and Ron enter the Ministry of Magic in disguise to find the Horcrux which Professor Umbridge has; they manage to retrieve it with near fatal consequences i.e. Ron nearly dies after being attacked as they teleport. In addition, Professor Snape appears to be doing more terrible deeds or helping them. There is also an interrupted wedding. Luna Lovegood gets kidnapped among others; as a consequence, Luna’s father is forced to give up Harry; luckily they, Harry, Hermoine and Ron, teleport into the woods. This teleportation and camping in the woods happens throughout the movie. When they get at least the third of seven Horcurxes it is difficult to destroy. The keeping of the Horcrux tests the relationship and friendship of Harry, Hermoine and Ron; as a result, Ron leaves them in anger and Harry gets angry and moody the longer he wears the Horcrux. They eventually find a way to destroy the Horcrux, that is they find and use the Sword of Gryffindor that Dumbledore left for Harry in the will. The sword appears like a “Lady in the Lake of Arthurian Legend”. Unfortunately they are all then captured by “snatchers” in the forest. Hermoine uses a spell to change Harry’s face which makes him unrecognizeable to Bellatrix Lestange and maybe Malfoy. As Lestrange tortures Hermoine, Ron, Harry, Luna and others are held in the cellar beneath the Malfoy home. It is until Harry’s long-time friend Dobby appears and rescues Harry and his friends only to be killed at the hands of Lestrange as they teleport to safety.
Harry Potter 7 Part 2 Or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 I can’t and I should not comment on the last of the Harry Potter films because it is too hard. I will leave you with the clip and say no more.
Harry Potter’s 1 to 4, 5 and 7 Part 1 are my favorites because they capture the sentiment, adult fairy-tale, good versus evil, and greatness that is Harry Potter.
Harry Potter’s 6 is my least favorite because it’s so short with a measly 138 minutes and so much is left out, much like all of the other Harry Potter movies but more is taken out. In addition, David Yates decides to focuss on the love interest i.e. the love between Ron and Ginney and Hermoine and Ron. It felt like they were Dementors sucking the life out of the movie, Ugh! This is not what Harry Potter is about, love is part of it but not so much “snogging”, that’s British for kissing.
Harry Potter 7 Part 2 Or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is turning out to be great, exciting, fantastic and brilliant. I can’t wait.
Good bye, so long, farewell, you will be missed Harry Potter.
